2017-18 Colts league match vs Harrow RFC
Sept 24th 2017
Score: Harrow 12-50 Fullerians

Summary:
Being offered the chance to play the league fixture as a mixed age event, Fullerians were able to put out a team made up of the players who have worked so well together during the pre-season. Injuries and other player commitments meant this was the only real way we could field a competitive team, so a big thank-you to the players who turned up and gave their all.
Harrow won the pre-match chanting competition, but very little else in a game that saw the home team make a series of errors under defensive pressure, and give away a host of penalties when Fullerians had the ball in hand.
It is interesting to see how the forwards and backs are gelling so well this season, both sets of players showing a level of maturity and rugby acumen that makes a team a truly competitive entity. Whilst, collectively, the Fullerians forwards did not perform as well as they did against OVs, there was no shortage of effort from everybody involved, and the game saw more than its fair share of good play in attack and defence. Having said this, some of the decisions made on the pitch at times from set-piece/penalties were not good, and we must put more effort into playing the right way depending on where we are on the pitch at any given time. In contrast, the backs played better than they did in their last outing, and some of the playmaking and support running was very good to watch.
What was particularly heartening to the coaching staff was how aspects of play we have worked on in training over the last few weeks were not only put in to practice, but done with real belief and conviction. If nothing else, this shows how the boys are willing to work hard on their game and take on board new coaching ideas and philosophies (something that warms the cockles of any coach). It also bodes very well for their continued rugby progression in the future.
Scores:
HT 0-24, FT 12-50 (Curtis Woodham running in 6 tries)
Play of the game:
Luke Stallard’s double dummy, followed by a killer pass to CW running at full pace on an in-out arc.
Also worth a mention were Alfie Sylvester’s intelligent kick down the line, followed by his chase chase and clear up; Harry Scully’s series of barnstorming runs; Higgin’s jackals and Monty’s cover tackling.
MOTMs:
Curtis Woodham and Oliver Higgins (c).
Work-ons:
Set piece recap (particularly line-out selection and back-row scrum moves (switcheroo).
Kicking skills in attack.
Backs attack lines off 12 and 10.
Front-row body-positioning and binding.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE LADS WHO PLAYED AND WON IN SUCH A CONVINCING FASHION. LET’S BUILD ON THIS PERFORMANCE AND GO FORWARD INTO THE NEXT FEW WEEKS WITH A BELIEF IN WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE.
