Fullerians Women come away with a win and a mud pack

Good Friday saw the Fullerian Furies matched against Biggleswade in what might be the muddiest game of the season. Both teams had the support of players representing Cheshunt, Hitchin and Royston Rugby Clubs behind them.

Biggleswade scored an early try, which shook the Furies awake. It was their one and only try. Strong and decisive play meant most of the action took place at the opposition's half. Despite Biggleswade making a stronger comeback in the second half, especially in their rucking attempts, they were no match for the Furies and were unable to break through defence for another try.

Fast ball handling between the backs was key to getting the ball towards the try zone. Fullers Back of the Match, Louise Brown (Cheshunt), proved herself too fast to catch and had many successful try opportunities. A strong forward lineup allowed for turnovers, as well as effectively pushing the line of play forward. Captain Nikki suffered a light injury during the second half, but in true warrior fashion, returned to the field to finish out the match.

Other highlights included sparing a worm from the throes of a strong scrum on both sides, a muddy post match slip and slide, and Captain Nikki partaking in kisses with strangers in a friendly game organised by the hosts later on in the clubhouse.

All in all, the match was a good show of sportsmanship and camaraderie. Special thanks go out to those that made special arrangements to allow the ladies to play on the least water-logged pitch available at short notice.

The Furies next match is planned for 8 April away
