After watching the excitement of the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens, a number of our players came away inspired, wondering if they could experience the fast-paced game themselves. That inspiration quickly turned into action when Lucas and Tayler approached the coaching team with the idea of forming a summer Sevens squad. The aim was simple: stay active during the off-season, learn a new format of the game and, above all, have some fun.

Following a handful of training sessions, the team entered their first tournament, the UR7s at Fullerians RFC. The result? We finished bottom of the standings. As coaches, we questioned what we had let ourselves in for and whether we should continue.
The players, however, had other ideas.

They embraced the challenge, committed to extra training and set about learning how to play Sevens properly, not simply as a 15-a-side team throwing the ball around. Their determination and willingness to improve laid the foundations for what became a fantastic summer.

We were also delighted to partner with local charity Fearless United as our lead sponsor. Fearless United is an inspiring organisation dedicated to making sport accessible to everyone, from community pop-up events and grassroots clubs through to elite-level competition, regardless of the barriers individuals or communities may face.
The partnership also brought an eye-catching new kit; a vibrant blend of Fearless United’s signature purple and the famous Fullerians stripes. We proudly debuted it at our second tournament, hosted by Sevens specialists Concorde at the beautiful Bugbrooke RFC in Northampton.

Not only did we look the part, but our rugby had improved significantly. While we weren’t yet challenging for the main finals, we scored more tries, competed far better and showed clear signs of progress. To top it all off, the matches were live-streamed with professional commentary, giving the lads a taste of what it feels like to play on the big stage.

The standard across the Sevens circuit was exceptionally high, featuring specialist Sevens teams and academy select squads. The learning curve was steep, but by the third tournament, hosted by Gorillas Rugby at Bedford Athletic, something had clicked.
We were no longer trying to play 15s, we were playing Sevens.The players had truly become Fearless, embracing the attacking style and confidence that suited both the format and the team’s name. We doubled our try tally from our opening tournament and continued to grow with every game.

Our final event of the summer took us to Saracens Amateurs for the House of Hope Charity Sevens. Having finished seventh at the same tournament the previous year, the squad arrived determined to improve & they certainly did.

The team went unbeaten throughout the pool stages, defeating both Concorde and local rivals Chess Valley to book a place in the Cup Final. A superb runners-up finish was a fitting reward for months of hard work, commitment and development throughout the 2026 Sevens season.

Will we be back next year? It’s certainly looking very likely.

Beyond the results, the project achieved something even more important. Through our partnership with Fearless United, 24 Under-15 players had the opportunity to experience Rugby Sevens, with 21 representing the team in tournaments. Players from five different clubs came together, formed lasting friendships and demonstrated the true spirit of the rugby community.

We rounded off a memorable summer with our Sevens celebration on 12 July. It has been an incredible journey, and after a well-earned short break, the squad now turns its attention to Under-16 pre-season, which begins on 6 August.
