The first league game of the season saw Fullerians traveling to Old Albanians.
The match started at a frantic pace with Fullerians attacking from the outset. Sustained pressure following a mid-field break from Finlay Horastead saw the Fullerians parked on the OAs 5 meter line. Successive attempts to batter their way over the line were repelled, and eventually the ball was knocked on as Jack Shute attempted to dive for the line.
OAs cleared their lines and started to build some pressure of their own without really threatening to score. Good first up tackling stopped them in their tracks, and Fullers managed to keep them out. Another break by Fullerians saw Ed Short throw a dummy pass to his centres and the defence parted for him to accelerate away to and score under the posts. Eamon added the conversion and Fullers were 7-0 up.
Going behind fired the OAs team up and they started to test the Fullers defence. A number of half breaks tested their scramble defence, with the OAs number 8 making dents up front and their outside centre showing his speed. The pressure finally told with OAs managing to create the overlap and score a converted try.
The second half started with sustained pressure applied by OAs as Fullerians started to give away penalties at the breakdown. OAs chose to go for scrums in order to launch their number 8, rather than for the guaranteed possession from lineouts and the Fullers defence held firm. A break to the OAs half followed a number of sustained forward drives by the Fullers pack and Lewis Evans crashed over for Fullers second drive, much to his delight. Eamon once again scored the extras.
OAs continued to pressure the Fullers line as Fullers continued to fall foul of the referee at the breakdown, but they could not quite make it over the line. Another break by Fullers saw Jayden released down the right wing, not for the first time, but this time he managed to stand his winger and the full back up to scorch away to score under the posts for an easy conversion by Eamon.
With only a few minutes to go OAs finally breached the Fullers defence to score a consolation try, but Fullers were delighted with their 21-12 victory away.
