It’s been a long time coming, but on the back of a solid win last week at home to Chiswick the lads knew Hackney wouldn’t be easy, but they do have a great record against them and it carries on for another season with an excellent 5-26 bonus point win away from home.
Winger Ryan Lewis put Fullers ahead on 10 minutes with a great fearless try on the right hand side putting everything he had into it to ensure the score was made, Dan Evans unfortunately couldn’t add the extras from touch.
An evenly matched physical encounter battled on before the dominant Fullerians scrum forced a penalty try on 32 minutes, with a Hackney player in the bin Fullers held on to the 0-12 lead and saw out half time.
It took almost 20 minutes into the second half for Fullers to score again, this time hooker Oscar Adams line out caught perfectly by man of the match Fin Horastead set up a driving mail with Adams joining in and nicely dotting down over the line after a near perfect 15 meter rumble, this time Evans slotted the extras.
Hackney got on the board shortly afterwards with a great piece of skill from their rapid winger, conversion missed.
But Fullers sensed a bonus point was in reach and the forwards did it again at scrum time as the referee awarded the second penalty try of the afternoon and another yellow for the home side.
Head coach Tom Courtney said “I’m really pleased with that result today, Hackney are a fit and physical side and for us to come away with 5 points and excellent discipline you can’t ask for a lot more than that”.
Next up Fullers take on Brunel at home, 21st December at 2pm
