Fullerians created their own perfect storm on Saturday afternoon with some excellent defence, brilliant discipline and superb work rate in the most challenging of conditions against Chiswick.
With pitch one out of action the game kicked off on pitch two side by side with the 2nd XV who were hosting Cuffley in a league and cup double header, sadly for them Cuffley nicked it 7-12.
Lee Bass with his second try of the season put the first points on the board with an magical step round the back of a ruck to crash over from a meter out, Dan Evans conversion attempt was good but storm Darragh didn’t want it to go over!
It was Evans himself next on the scoreboard with a 60 meter intercepted try, with the Chiswick 9 under pressure from yet another dominant scrum Evans plucked the pass inside his own half and made it all they way to score out wide, he unfortunately couldn’t convert his amazing effort.
Half time 10-0
With the wind now behind them Fullers got the game underway and continued the pressure and Evans in fine form opted to kick a couple of penalties to take the game beyond two tries for Chiswick.
As the battle continued Fullers sensed they had a more in the tank and Liam Mann bagged a brace with the first coming off an brilliant move involving all the backs allowing Mann to run in behind, Evans superbly slotted the extras. Manns second try came from yet another piece of brilliance from Evans, this time a cheeky chip though the tiring Chiswick defence allowed Mann to run though and tap down in the right corner setting up the most difficult of kicks for Evans, but it was the man of the match who converted the final points from the hardest place to kick from on the field.
Head coach Tom Courtney “I am really pleased with how the guys played today, lots of the hard work in training coming off, I’m most proud of their discipline and how they didn’t give up in such horrendous conditions”
Fullerians 30 - 0 Chiswick
