Frustrating afternoon up the A41

Fullerians travelled up the A41 to Aylesbury looking to bounce back to winning ways from last weekends defeat at London Irish, however it was not to be.

Fullers again made a brilliant start with super quick winger Ryan Lewis scoring inside the first 5 minutes with some really nice footwork down the right wing to get his second try of the season, Dan Evans couldn’t convert mainly owing to the blustery conditions.
Aylesbury steadied and not before long found themselves pressing inside Fullers 22 then Dan Evans got sent to the bin to cool down for a high tackle, Aylesbury punished with the man advantage and charged the Fullers defence from 5 meters, conversion missed.
Ten minutes later second row Liam Boyd found the gap and rushed the Aylesbury defensive line from their 22 and crash over to give Fullers the lead again, Evans missed the extras.
Just as the clock was approaching half time Evans, running a beautiful line, collected a lovely ball from Shaun Smith which allowed him to fly through the tired Aylesbury defenders to score, missed conversion again.

Half time 5-15

A minute after the restart Aylesbury’s influential no8 decided he needed another rest after running 15 meters to get involved in some handbags following George Harvey’s sublime effort to drive two Aylesbury players off the field.
The next twenty or so minutes were fairly even with two big packs and speedy backs cancelling each other out nicely but Fullers couldn’t capitalise with the extra man and Aylesbury bounced back with a really well worked try again no conversion.
Captain Ben Matchett extended Fullers lead on 68 minutes with a penalty before the referee took centre stage and bizarrely yellow carded hard tackling Harvey, Aylesbury came up with the goods again and a great kick though and lucky bounce allowed them to reduce the deficit this time the conversion was successful, 8 minutes left on the clock score 17-18.

Fullerians weren’t giving up despite being down to 14 but the referee carded debutant Dan Munt and Aylesbury once again took the advance and crashed though and converted to win the game in the dying minute.

As the whistle blew for full time tempers flared and the Aylesbury 9 decided to wind both sides up as a 30 man rumble ended with a card to the instigator. And the referee continued after the game carding head coach Gavin Jakeman for asking a question on his interpretation of a law.

Fullers hadn’t seen a yellow card in the 3 league and 3 preseason games before this game and came away very disappointed with plenty to work on. The only positive was the losing bonus point.

Next Saturday, 1st October, Fullerians are home to Old Priorian at 3pm
