Home defeat against Cobham

So the half way point of the season has been met with Fullerians losing at home to a strong Cobham side.
In the first ever encounter between the two sides Cobham came to Watford with the form having won their last 4 games whilst Fullers have been a little inconsistent.

Near perfect autumnal conditions saw the game get underway with the visitors kicking off and immediately showing they were here to do business with a great kick chase ensuring Liam Boyd had nowhere to go once he collected the kick. It wasn’t long before Cobham got on the scoreboard with some nice work in midfield they scored and converted on 5 minutes and again again on 10 to lead deservingly.

Fullers gathered themselves well and versatile Rich McCabe, this week starting at no8, did what he does with such strength and drove the Cobham defence back and back until he scored himself, Ben Matchett executed the kick well for the extras.

Cobham added a third with an excellent piece of individual skill from their fullback but they couldn’t make the conversion. Fullerians then kicked in again and a good battle commenced with both sides cancelling out efforts but Fullers had all the momentum but just could get the ball where they needed it, despite brilliant turnovers from Shaun Smith, and just before the half against the run of play Cobham got their bonus point 4th try.

Half time 7-26

The second half kicked off a little cagey with Fullers on the offence and some excellent handling through the backs saw Smith score, Matchett kicked the conversion.
It was once again the last ten minutes where most of the action took place with Cobham stretching their lead with another good try and conversion to put the game out of reach.
Fullerians did get a third from fullback Kieran Cavanagh which wasn’t converted and with 8 minutes on the clock the team felt the could get at least a point from the defeat only for another piece of excellent work saw Cavanagh agonisingly drop the ball a meter out with no one around him.

Fullerians travel to local rivals Old Habs in Borehamwood next Saturday knowing they must turn their fortunes around, with results around them they now see the relegation battle below a bit to closely.
