Having pushed three of the top five sides so close in the last few weeks, earning a losing bonus point in each, Fullers went for it under the beautiful backdrop of Windsor Castle with a performance fit for the King.
A cagey first 30 minutes saw both sides trying to out do one another and some great defensive work made it look like we were in for another afternoon of very close rugby. However after some good territory Fullers had a line out five meters out and hooker Richard McCabe threw a perfect ball which was caught and the short drive over the line saw McCabe finish of a great move, Dan Evans unfortunately pulled the kick wide right.
Windsor deservedly scored a few minutes later with nice play catching the Fullers defence out, their try was converted and the had a brief lead before Kieran Cavanagh intercepted a pass inside the Fullerians half and darted down the wing to nicely offload to supporting fly-half Toby Lambert who finished off the move beautifully, Evans this time kicked excellently for the extras.
Half time 7-12
The second half was all about discipline with a Windsor player getting 10 minutes in the bin almost immediately after kick off, and a second player seeing yellow as winger Adam Rees added Fullerians third try when he collected a brilliant chip over the top from replacement fly-half Ben Matchett, Evans pulled the conversion attempt wide right again unfortunately.
Windsor now down to 13 players we’re tiring quickly and Fullerians went for the jugular with James Maher picking a loose ball which he offloaded to George Harvey who rampaged 30 meters before brilliantly offloading to Cavanagh to score in the corner in a fantastic textbook team try, Evans sealed it with a great kick from the left flank.
More ill discipline from the hosts gave Evans a perfect shot at goal to extend the lead further with 20 minutes left to play, Windsor the had their third yellow of the game for another infringement and they would finish the game with 14 players.
The fifth try came from another dominant scrum 5 metres out this time with Matchett fling the ball out to Evans and superbly saw Rees in space and a high looping pass over the top allowed him to dot down his second of the afternoon, Evans didn’t make the conversion.
Windsor didn’t give up all game and scored in the final moments of the game which saw a flurry of yellow cards for Fullerians meaning they finished the game with 12 players, however the work was done and Matchett ended the game kicking the ball off the field when possession was regained as the clock was up.
