Good all round display progresses Fullers into the next round of the County competition

Fullerians with changes to the team and in difficult conditions were well worthy of their victory on Saturday.

Fullers started well playing to the strong wind. A catch and drive in the Harpenden 22 saw veteran prop Gavin Greenan crash over after some great control by the Fullers pack. Moments later second row Ross Noonan bounced the home side defence and out sprinted the Harpenden cover (much to the delight of everyone watching) to score under the posts. Nick Heley converted the extras.

Fullers then stepped off the gas and allowed Harpenden back in the game. Poor positioning by the Fuller defence and tackling allowed the home side to score twice quickly and get back into the game.

With the wind behind them in the second half Fullers started to dominate most aspects of the game. Their scrum was magnificent and took almost everything in the second half as Harpenden began to creak. On the Harpenden line a simple pick up from the base of the scrum and pop to scrum half Tom Sherriff was enough to send Captain of the day Sam Tinsley over in the corner for the third try of the match.

Fullers kept piling on the pressure and Heley added two further penalties to extend the lead. Harpenden continued to battle on and deservedly scored again after the visitors failed to clear their lines.

Fullerians secured their win with the last try of the game after good strong running from centre Johan Rheeder who barged his way over the line for a 17-35 score line.

“We played well in difficult decisions on Saturday although we could have put Harpenden to the sword if we worked a little harder and made the right decision at key times. A few changes didn’t affect the team showing our strength in depth and creates difficult decisions in selection for next week.” Commented Skipper Sam Tinsley.

Team: Greenan, McCann, Wetton, Noonan, Brimson, Goode, Longhurst, Kerr (Macdonald 55), Sherriff (Bailey 50), Heley, Tinsley (C), Bland, Rheeder, Hague-Blundy, Evans.
