Triumphant Colts Win All Matches to Claim the Gwen Hancock Trophy

The Saturday of the Intra Club Touch Festival dawned hot and humid and by the time we reached the 12:30 start time, the mercury had already hit 28 degrees!
It was clear from the off that some teams were taking this very seriously. The Colts looking very resplendent in T shirts specially procured for the event started strongly. The U14 Boys had clearly been trained & drilled on Touch game moves by Touch stalwart Mike Smith, landed an early surprise beating the Touch Masters team in round 1.

Round 2 saw an entertaining & hard-fought draw between the U14 Boys & the U15 Boys as well as the Touch team losing to the U16 Boys. The Colts ran out easy winners against the U16 Girls team picking up a bonus point for 4 trys or more!

In Round 3 the U14 Boys saw yet another draw against the U16 Boys. The Touch team recorded their first win against the U16 Girls team & Colt ran out easy 5 :1 winners against the U15 Boys.

In Round 4 the U14 Boys started to excel & earnt a bonus point beating the U16 Girls 6: 1. Touch became the first team to score two tries against the Colts but it was to no avail, the Colts ran in 5 tries to claim yet another bonus point victory. The U16 Boys played a very even game against the U15 Boys & it took a moment of genius to win the match. Tied at two all, the coaches bought on Dave Jackson who on his first touch, recognised it was a two on one, pinned the defender and passed into space for the winger to score. For such dexterous back skills, probably never to be seen again, DJ was made player of the tournament & earned a desirable pair of Fullerians Sliders (ideal for the summer & available behind the bar. Summer bucket hats are also available!).

And so, onto the final round where the Colts were due to play the only team who could catch them in the table, the U14 Boys. The fourteens threw everything into the match, valiantly pushing the Colts all the way. However, the Colts scored twice to win the match. Buoyed by their success in RD4, the U16 Boys ran out 6 to 1 winners versus the U16 Girls, earning a bonus point. Touch beat the U15 Boys 2:1 in an entertaining game.
Two wins in the final rounds resulted in the U16 Boys finishing second, with the U14 Boys finishing third overall:

Won Drew Pts
Colts 5 0 23
U16 Boys 3 1 16
U14 Boys 2 2 13
Touch 2 0 11
U15 Boys 1 1 8

Overall, it was a great event & one that we will repeat next year!
