‘The boys are back in town’

It’s been two months since the 1st XV Men’s league campaign ended in relegation from Regional 2 Thames following a challenging season at level six.
In the Papa John’s cup 1st round we had a bye which was followed by a 27-36 defeat at home to finalists Gravesend.
Skipper Rich McCabe kept his boots on for the Bill Beaumont county championships with three caps helping Hertfordshire reach the semi-finals with good performances and wins against Leicestershire and Middlesex before losing to Devon on Saturday 1st June.

The 2nd & 3rd XV’s finished their leagues in 4th and 3rd positions respectively with the 3rd XV going on to win the Herts Merit Tankard final against Watford 2’s up at Hertford bringing home the silverware with solid performances from legend Gavin Greenan and a handful of colts amongst the team.

2024/25 preseason preparation is well underway with the backroom team being assembled under new head coach Tom Courtney taking shape, a few appointments still to be made but we hope to have these tied down in the coming weeks.
Sean Mahon returns as men’s team manager, with Graeme Howard in medical and the matchday support team of John Clark, George Sylvester, Ross & Ben Channer.
Dan Fowler heads up the 2nd XV supported by Emma Darley in medical.
Danny Howard takes up the 3rd XV manager role.
Further to this the men are bolstered by Jeff Wall as membership secretary and David Toon as fixture secretary.
If you’re looking to get involved we’d happily accept voluntary support particularly with the 2nd & 3rd teams on matchdays.

The 1st XV league opponents are now known with fixtures being released next week, this season we’ll be taking on Brunel University, Cheshunt, Chiswick, Datchworth, Ealing 1871, Finchley, Hackney, Hitchin, Old Streetonians, Ruislip & Welwyn.
The Merit tables will be available in July and will be shared once released.

We are actively recruiting new players for all 3 squads and welcome players of any ability to training sessions, if you’re interested or want any more information drop Sean Mahon a call/message on 07562 230578
