Fullers A prove to be too much for Chess Valley 40-0

A great all-round team performance combining power, pace and precision.
If we had any doubts how much the U12 As have improved this year, this was the game to dispel them.
After losing to Chess last season, many of the boys from Rickmansworth and Croxley were very upset, and had to suffer some ribbing from school friends on the Monday morning. There was no need to 'pump up' the boys for this game - they could have done their own pre-match motivational speech.
The forwards were simply outstanding. The dynamism of the rucking and the pack's desire to be at every breakdown in numbers was beautiful to see. I had to smile when Coach Ash ticked the forwards off for losing a scrum against the head in the first half. Lineouts worked well, and it was very satisfactory to see Walshy power through for the last try of the game.
In the past, the backs have not always performed with the ball won for them by the forwards. That has changed recently, and against Chess, they showed what they were really capable of. Good decision making by the half backs (once Feasey remembered he wasn't playing as a front-row forward), unleashed our runners into space, and everybody got plenty of ball time. Skinner and Brown linked very well, both drawing the tackle and releasing the correct passes to put their support runners into space.
Defence was great. Line speed pressure meant Chess Valley had no time to think, and their danger players were forced into mistakes. The tackling was superb, and the cover was always there.
Almost impossible to pick out players deserving special mention for individual moments of skill and bravery. Great rugby only happens when the TEAM play together FOR each other. That was what the boys did today. Long may it continue.
