FULLERIANS U14 VS HITCHIN U14, HERTFORDSHIRE LEAGUE 2, 17TH JANUARY 2016
It was a particularly cold January morning in Hitchin where Fullerians continued their winning run in their new division in a hard fought match which eventually finished 27-14.
Fullerians, who had been promoted to division 2 last season, had shown their worth against Hemel before Christmas, but were hunting for a win against another well reputed club to back it up.
Hitchin were immediately put on pressure by a fast line speed and bouncing ball. It didn’t take long for Fullers to covert this into the first try and break the deadlock through Otis, finishing a well worked over lap from the Fullerians backs. This proved to be a very important score despite it not being converted, asa it put Fullers ahead for the majority of the half, until good periods in the Fullers half led to a pick and go try for Hitchin.
Fullers managed to snatch a try back at the end of the half though with the quick thinking and pace of Jayden Wilson to find the fault in the otherwise solid Hitchin defence which left the score 10-7 at half time.
A quick turn of ends and calm words of advice from both sets of coaches led to another packed half. Hitchin burst through for their second try to put Fuller’s behind early on in the second half until strong forwards work gave Max Pyatt the opportunity to bulldoze his way from a scrum and over the line.
From here on Fullers had the upper hand. Similar tries from Tommy Wheeler and a second from Pyatt sealed a bonus point win. Great attitude was shown from both sides in view of the weather conditions as well as the snowy and muddy conditions.
Scorers;
1st half – Otis, Jayden
2nd half – Max x2 and Tommy
