The game got underway beneath a huge rainbow, but the Fullerian's players still seemed to be admiring the colours as Canterbury returned the kick-off down the touchline to score the opening try within 20 seconds.
Fullerians woke up and started to pressurise the Canterbury 22, but had less luck gaining ground than their opponents. This was mainly due to the Fullerians failing to tackle low, too often attempting to take the Canterbury players around the chest and shoulders, allowing them to brush off players and take simple ground with every drive.
Fullerians kept plugging away, but a number of knock-ons and slow passing prevented them from taking advantage of their pressure, and it was no surprise when Canterbury went further ahead with a burst through the middle from their outstanding No 13.
Spurred on by this injustice Fullerians finally crossed the white wash to register 5 points following a spell of pressure.
The second half started the same as the first had finished, with Fullerians unable to take advantage of their superior possession, and then losing dramatic amounts of ground due to uncharacteristic bad tackling.
Canterbury took full advantage to go 29-5 up with 15 minutes to play, when Fullerians suddenly rediscovered their tackling. Great shots by Luke Beckley and Olli put Canterbury on the back foot, but despite lineouts on the 5 meter line and a number of attacking scrums Fullerians were unable to register any more points, even though they had Canterbury penned back for the last 15 minutes.
The result did not reflect the performance, even though Canterbury did deserve to be victors. It was a great day out, and a big thank you to all of the parents and players who came for making it a really enjoyable day out.
