The game developed into a close fought match with both teams pushing for territory. Fullerians managed to dominate at the scrum and provide clean ball to the Backs. With some expert handling through the Backs the ball was fed to Rhys Tavener who powered down the wing to score under the posts. A successful conversion followed by Rhys. Score 7 – 5 to Fullerians.
Hitchin continued their territory game and forced a penalty under the Fullers posts, where they decide to take a penalty kick for 3 points – score now 8 – 7 to Hitchin which took us to Half Time.
The second half resumed with Hitchin pushing Fullerians back resulting in another penalty in the 22 and again Hitchin took the 3 points with a successful kick – score now 11 – 7 to Hitchin.
A response was needed from Fullers – which came with the continued domination at the scrum and forceful Forward play which saw Fullers spend a lot of time in the Hitchin 22. Points were clearly required by now and it came with Hooker Calum Goodchild driving forward from the 5 meter line and crashing over the line near the posts to score. With a successful conversion by Rhys. Score now 14 – 11 to Fullerians.
Hitchin tried to mount a response but failed with the Fullerians 15 man defence holding strong and pushing Hitchin back into their own half. The final whistle was well received by Fullerians Players, Coaches and Parents.
