Valid effort but Fullers fall short
London 1 North
Fullers have shown Great Spirit in the second half of the season but were well beaten by a good North Walsham side and were consequently relegated from London 1 North. Fullers prepared well for this game and had a chance of staying up if they won this game by a bonus point and results went their way, but this was not to happen.
North Walsham scored within the first few minutes as Fullers dropped off the tackles and Walsham spread the ball wide for their excellent backline to break through and score in the corner.
Fullers scrum dominated again and it wasn’t long when they were awarded a penalty. They kicked for the corner but the scoring opportunity went missing as the lineout miscued and the visitors were able to clear their lines.
North Walsham scored twice in quick succession as their backs and forwards linked well and were suddenly 0-17 up before the break.
In the second half Fullers were dominated in open field as North Walsham spread the ball wide. Offloading in the tackle and Fullers heads were dropping as the game and league survival slipped away. Players being sinbinned on both sides didn’t help the game but certainly hurt Fullers more as North Walsham scored more tries to comprehensively win the game.
“We had such a poor start to the season and were mortally wounded then. The guys put a massive shift in to try and stay in the league; in fact we would have been top four if our first half of the season had been like our second. We still have a cup final to play on the 28th and will build for that to finish on a high” commented Fullerians head coach Rich Hoskins.
