Fullerians Women's 1st XV start their pre season

The Fullerians Furies faced the High Wycombe Belles in a pre-season match on Sunday 19th August 2018 hosted by Harpenden RFC on their new AGP pitch. This was the first game to be played at the new AGP and a great showcase for Women's rugby to be the first teams playing.

In a game of 'position roulette', the Furies played 80 action filled minutes with players throwing themselves wholeheartedly into the first friendly of the season. Joining the Furies were players from Royston RFC and Grove RFC.

The Belles came out in full force expecting to dominate the Furies from the get-go. The Furies held their own, meeting force with force. The backs made amazing plays, and used their footsy skills to advance the ball down the line. The forwards used their force to break through the Belles' defensive line. Bone crushing tackles were made by back Laura, whilst forward Jacy grew more confident with her ball carrying. As a team, there is still much to learn about playing together, but all are eager to see what the upcoming season brings. Both Coach Craig and Assistant Coach Harriet are immensely proud of the team's performance.

Playing their first match for the Furies were Holly, Charlotte, Hannah, Laura and Louise, who is also returning from an injury. Also returning from injuries were Ann Marie and Amy. A familiar face, Harri made its way back to the pitch. We hope Harri comes to play as often as possible after her impending move. Royston also put forward new players needing more exposure to life on the pitch. In total, nine new players represented the Furies, a large number to the four High Wycombe put forth.

The Furies would like to extend their gratitude to Harpenden RFC for hosting the match, as well as to Royston and Grove for offering bodies in order to ensure numbers were met. Of the team's performance, Skipper Nikki said, "I'm very proud of everyone and couldn't have asked for a better first game." We were flattered to receive feedback from Laura (Royston), who said that we are not only a great team to play with, but have also made great strides as a team since the last time she played with Furies. We greatly appreciate her leadership and guidance on the field. A special shout out goes to Stuart, Danny, our injured players and other members of Fullerians RFC for coming out to cheer us on.
