LONDON NIGERIANS 10 FULLERIANS 32

Valuable bonus point win keeps spirit alive

Fullerians 1st XV produced another excellent display to out muscle their opponents and move off the foot of the table. Even changes 24 hours before kick off did not spoil the day for Fullers and newcomers into the team stepped up to the plate.

Scores by Greg Bezzer (2), Dan Evans, Matt Deane and a penalty try (as Fullers were so dominant in the scrum) were fair justice on a horribly wet pitch.

“All the changes before kick off did not deter us from victory last Saturday. To score 5 tries on a very wet pitch was a fantastic achievement from the team. All 18 team members made an impact and keeps our league status alive.” commented skipper Sam Tinsley.

Team. Muchena (Barnes 50), Horne, Bushell, Noonan, Harrison (Nightingale), Allen, O’Brien (McCann), Elvin, Sherriff, McLellan, Bezzer, Tinsley (C), Deane, Harvie, Evans.

Man of the Match: Kim McLellan

FULLERIANS 9 CHISWICK 15

Gutsy second half display just falls short

Fullerians 1st XV were slow out of the traps on Saturday and that proved dividend as the game developed. Chiswick haven’t lost in their last 6 games and are climbing the league and were just that sharper and more clinical in the early exchanges.

The visitors scored two quick tries down the right wing and deserved their early lead. Fullers rallied eventually after flanker John Elvin was sin binned with his opposite number. Two quick penalties converted by full back Dan Evans and replacement Luke Govier made a half time score of 6-10. Not a bad result for Fullers as Chiswick must have had 70% possession of the half.

Veteran Fly half Kim McLellan was also sin binned in the second half and that at last produced that ‘fire in the belly’ for the home side and they got themselves into good field position. They were rewarded with another Govier penalty inching closer to the Chiswick score.

With 20 minutes remaining a slip up in the Fullers defence allowed Chiswick to score down the left corner for their third try. However, Fullers were not beaten yet and with a full side back on the pitch managed to string some phases together to give themselves a chance.

The Fullers lineout was working well and time and time again they were held short of the line. The ball was pushed out to the Fullers back line but the Chiswick defence held firm right to the very end.

“We were slow starters today and could have won it at the end. Just goes to show that you have to be ready for the game right from the start and have that hunger for the full 80 minutes. We came away with a bonus losing point which may prove valuable in the end” commented skipper Sam Tinsley.

Team. Muchena, Horne, Bushell, Noonan, Harrison (Elvin), Longhurst, Molloy, Kerr, Elvin, Sherriff, McLellan, Bezzer, Tinsley (C), Deane, Harvie, Evans (Govier).
