Fullerians 19 Bank of England 3 Print E-mail

At last some lovely spring sunshine over Watford and with the pitches looking in pristine condition (well done Peter) all was set for this mid table league contest. The Chairman asked his troops to fix bayonets and dig deep and they obliged with a great first 40 minutes putting Bank of England to the sword.

Fullers took the lead early on when debutant wing Chris Grimwood took the ball rounded his opposite number, handed off the next to score in the corner. The home side extended their lead when centre Johann Rheeder found himself in space produced a lovely dummy to fool everyone and raced the 20 metres to score under the posts. McLellan converted.

Fullers continued to pin their opponents back in their 22 with good driving work by the Fullers pack. Inevitably the spaces appeared and fly half McLellan used his strength to crash over. He added the extras.

Bank then came back into the game and Fullers came off the accelerator. The visitors almost went over the line themselves if it wasn't for some good defensive work by the home side. They were eventually awarded a penalty which they duly converted. 19-3 at half time.

The Chairman asked for much the same in the second half but it was Bank who upped the intensity in the early stages of the second half. Once again they were denied any points but a dogged Fullers defence who held firm all day.

Fullers did get into the second half with replacements Callum Hunt and Matt Bunce making good impacts when they came on. They were rewarded for their efforts with two penalties but both went astray. However, it did not matter as it was going to be Fullerians day with a well deserved victory.

"We played very well indeed for the first 40 minutes against a team who had recently been showing a great run of form. We seemed to run out of steam in the second half rather than turning the screw on our opponents. It was a great effort by the whole squad again and to shut Bank out defensively was very satisfying. Thank you from the Chairman." commented skipper Jamie Molloy.
